Starting with the American Revolution my family has had a member in every major war including 3 of us in Vietnam. At 75 I am still fit and ready if called upon. In the mean time there is plenty to do fighting propaganda and spreading the truth as well as calming those stressed over this mess.
I do the simplest things that seem to surprise people. I hold doors, help load cars with their groceries and return carts to the stalls as I return mine. I help people reach goods on high shelves and extract goods that are too low. Smiling and saying hello rarely goes wrong. Talking to some people in store lines always seems pleasant. These are such simple things, but brighten the lives of others.
There are obviously more generous ways of helping and I do, but that is not always necessary, that you are brightening lives is important. Over the holidays I went through a small store where I knew the employees and shared some very nice chocolate with them. You would think I had given the a piece of gold. When do patrons do such things.
It is fun, be creative and surprise them with a friendly gesture. It is a way of fighter the war. They want us separated and fighting each other. The above actions bring us closer together. We are fighting their propaganda and destroying their attempt to keep us apart.
If the time comes and the situation calls for it, then we bring out the guns. Bur for now veterans have been asked to stand down until called upon. Unless there is a direct and immediate assault on you, your family or community… then we fight!
